Welcome to Reception

We are looking forward to welcoming the reception children back tomorrow Monday 15th June and we are so looking forward to seeing them. If your child is returning, or you are thinking about sending your child back in, our classroom and procedures are ready to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Your child will be allocated 'a bubble' made up of a small group of children and, in reception, 2 adults which will be the only people your child will interact with while in school. They will stay in their classroom or attached outdoor area for the whole time they are in school, including eating their dinner.

Washing of hands and equipment will be done several times a day which means that the amount of toys available for your child to play with will have to be much less than they had before lockdown and everything which is not easy to wipe down and disinfect has been put away.   Here are some photographs of some of the areas in the reception class so that you can prepare your child.

Please note that, following government guidance, there will be no sand, playdough or any soft toys/furnishings.  Water play will be limited to individual bowls which can be emptied when each child has finished playing.  Please also show your child the closed signs - these are there to show that an area has been closed for cleaning so if your child sees one of these signs they know not to touch.

Many thanks for your support,

The Reception team.

Reception Classroom June 2020

Home Learning

If your child is continuing with home learning, carry on with the play based curriculum spending time playing in the garden, drawing and colouring, baking, reading stories, playing with water, building models and using the virtual reception classroom on 'Purple mash - mini mash'. There are also many online activities such as P.E. with Joe Wicks and CBeebies have lots of educational programs - we love 'Numberblocks' for maths and 'Alphablocks' for phonics.

Please Click Here to access the Reception home learning for the week beginning Monday 6th of July.

There are printable workbooks and linked activities on the Home Learning - Reception page. (Hover over classes reception and you'll find it.) The home learning challenge this week is all about Transport!

Find activities that you may have missed on the previous week's activities page. smiley

As you will all be aware, Mrs Storey, will be teaching a Reception Bubble group in school. Work will still continue to be set for the other children in Reception who are not currently attending school. As Mrs Storey will be in class full time, Miss Williams will oversee this work and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have, this will be done in liaision with Mrs Storey and Mrs Emerton. Please note, there is a new website address to send any future work to: receptionclass@olcps.uk

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Take care and stay well! smiley

Our Reception teacher is Mrs Storey who is supported by Mrs Carr and Mrs Maddock (Teaching Assistants).

We have lots of fun in Reception as we learn through play. At the beginning of the year we make new friends with the children who have joined us from other nurseries but after a few weeks we are working as one happy family.

During the Autumn term we love performing our Nativity for everyone, while in the Spring term, we have fun carrying out an Easter egg hunt, and in the Summer term, we run as fast as we can on Sports Day.

Throughout our school day, we learn both in and outside. Outside we might like to dig in our garden, make obstacle courses or spend time steering in and out of each other on the bikes. Inside we might like to play in our role play area, write cards to our families or read a book with our friends.

The Reception children are well looked after by their Buddies from Year 6 who keep a gentle eye on them on the playground, at lunch time, and in our Friday celebration assembly.

If you have any questions or concerns, please come and see me at the end of the school day.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Storey
