Faith in Action

At every opportunity, Our Lady's pupils passionately put their faith into action across the local community and overseas, seeking to respond to the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and the school's own gospel-inspired values.

Catholic Social Teaching

At the heart of Catholic social teaching is something both simple and noble: an effort to make the actions and words of Jesus real again today to transform and uplift social life for all people in light of the gospel.

At Our Lady's we look to focus on 6 key aspects of Catholic Social Teaching:

1) Solidarity, Community and Participation - we are all God’s people and have a responsibility to each other; we are called upon to work in unison for each other, with those in our family, our community and those beyond our shores.

2) Caring for Creation - we have been given a great gift by God and are called upon to be stewards of our common home.

3) Help for the Poor and Vulnerable - we all can have a say, a positive impact, in the lives of those most in need; we are required to help our brothers and sisters.

4) Dignity of the Human Person - each and every one of us is sacred through God’s love; we are all human, made equal, and must keep striving for equality and inclusivity.

5) Dignity of Workers - everyone has the right to work, earn and provide, where justice and fairness abide.

6) The Common Good: rights and responsibilities - we all have a responsibility to ensure everyone has access to basic needs and resources and everyone has a voice.

Charitable Work

In response to Gospel Values and Catholic Social Teaching principles, the pupils of Our Lady's have demonstrated a real passion for charitable work, eager to support those who are poor or vulnerable.

Recent fundraising projects have supported Educaid and their work in Sierra Leone and Cafod with their work for people fishing off the coast of Liberia. As well as thinking of those further afield, pupils have also supported charities closer to home including The British Heart Foundation, Wear it Pink: Breast Cancer Awareness, St.Joseph's Centre, Warrington and The St.Vincent De Paul group (who show their support for those in our own community).

The Mini Vinnies

The Mini Vinnies group help to plan and lead prayer sessions throughout the school year. Their work doesn't stop there though! They play a key role in raising awareness of those in need and organising fundraising opportunites.

Faith in Action Award

In Our Lady's, our Y6 pupils participate in the Shrewsbury Youth Team Faith in Action Award. All participants enjoyed collecting evidence of how they put their faith into action!

Walking Day

Every summer, pupils from Our Lady's participate in Walking Day which has a strong heritage for those in the Warrington area. Pupils attended a service at our local parish church of St. John Henry Newman, delivered by Fr. Peter, where they were reminded of the importance of community and solidarity, before taking part in a walking procession from Warrington Town Hall through the town centre and cheering crowds. A great experience for all!

Singing in the Community

Our school choir were busy in the local community singing hymns and carols during Advent at both the Golden Square shopping centre and the Victoria Road Nursing Home.

They also performed at a special concert with other primary schools in the summer at St.Oswald's in Padgate...
