Religious Education

Our Religious Education Leaders are Mr Gilby and Miss Rowland.

Religious Education is a fundamental part of our school life and is taught as a core subject. We ensure that each class fulfils the Diocesan recommendation of 10% teaching time and we follow the Bishop’s chosen programme ‘The Vine and The Branches‘ in a creative way.

RE is so much more than just lessons in a classroom at Our Lady’s as our faith permeates everything that we do. The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of each child is addressed through all aspects of the curriculum and school life.

The programme is divided into six branches taught over the year:

  • Autumn 1 – Creation and Covenant
  • Autumn 2 – Prophecy and Promise
  • Spring 1 – Galilee to Jerusalem
  • Spring 2 – Desert to Garden
  • Summer 1 – To the Ends of the Earth
  • Summer 2 – Dialogue and Encounter

Each unit begins with scripture and the whole scheme is based around listening to and becoming familiar with the Word of God.

We endeavour to work closely with other schools, especially those within our Parish and our Trust, to share outstanding practice and therefore ensure our children reach their full potential. Suitable opportunities are provided for all children by matching the challenge of the task to the ability and experience of the child.
