Pen Portraits

  • Maureen Creaghan

My name is Maureen Creaghan and I have been a Foundation Governor at Our Lady’s School for sixteen years, but my involvement with the school goes back thirty five years when my first daughter started school  here followed some years later by my second daughter.

My main duties as  a Governor are Safeguarding and Special Educational Needs.  Both are close to my heart and paramount in education today.

I am both proud and honoured to be part of a Governing Body whose school puts our children at the centre of all that we do.

  • Ann Dutton

From a young age I have had a passion for the ‘Early Years’. Prior to training as a teacher at Liverpool Hope University I was a teaching assistant for six years. My teaching career, as a newly qualified teacher started at Our Lady’s in 1997. Since then I have been the Nursery Teacher (for twelve years) and I am presently entering my sixth year as the Reception Teacher.

During my time at Our Lady’s I have continued to study and gained my ‘Masters of Science in Education’ degree in 2005 and more recently the ‘National Award in Special Educational Needs’.

Presently, I have the role of ‘Foundation Stage Leader’, Special Needs Co-ordinator and a mentor for student teachers, teaching assistants and newly qualified teachers.  I have been a member of the Senior Leadership team since 2002 and a Governor for eight years.

  • Adrian O'Callaghan

My name is Adrian O’Callaghan and I have been a Foundation Governor at Our Lady’s School for ten years. My daughter and myself both attended Our Lady’s and we have many happy memories of the school. I am a teacher at St Alban’s Primary school in Warrington and firmly believe in quality education for all of our children. I am very honoured to be part of the school community here at Our Lady’s.

  • Jane Wright

My name is Jane Wright and I am currently Vice Chair of Our Lady’s Governing body. I was elected as a parent Governor back in 2008 when I had two boys in the school (Tom and Charlie) and re-elected for a further term in 2012.  I am now a Foundation Governor.  Both boys are now doing well at Cardinal Newman High School thanks to the wonderful start they had at Our Lady’s.

Having been an active helper in the school over the years, both in the classroom, as a PTA member and on many a school trip, I am able to combine my experience with a real passion for the education of our children, amidst the many challenges faced by schools today.

I worked for many years in a large local authority before becoming an administrator for St Marys RC Church. I am therefore no stranger to policies and procedures – a useful attribute for a Governor, especially as I wear the Health and Safety hat!

I love being part of Our Lady’s and seeing the children and staff achieve so many wonderful things. It makes being a Governor thoroughly worthwhile.

  • Fr Peter Montgomery

As Parish Priest of Blessed John Henry Newman Parish I take a great interest in all its schools. Our Lady’s School has its own distinct character and culture shaped over many years of close partnership between the school, its families and the parish. This is a great advantage for all the children because it enables them to grow in awareness of themselves with the ability to be active and happy citizens not only of the world but also God’s kingdom. The faith life of the school and an atmosphere of genuine concern for the welfare and happiness of its children, staff and families lie at its heart.

John Henry Newman understood these things very well and regarded a good education as the greatest platform from which to develop every human personality. These are the values that characterise a good Catholic school and Our Lady’s lives up to them very well indeed. I see it as my role to help sustain and grow these values along with all who share the aim of doing our very best for those entrusted to our care.
