Welcome to Year 5!

Our class teacher is Mr Gilby.

Important things to remember:

  • PE lessons are every Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure your child comes into school in wearing their full PE on these days.

PE Kit: plain white round neck T-shirt (no logos), navy/black shorts or jogging bottoms (no logos), trainers and school jumper/cardigan or a plain tracksuit                                        top/hoodie (again with no logos)

  • Keyboard lessons are on a Thursday afternoon with Fran Sixsmith.
  • Reading records should be sent into school daily.
  • Water bottles should be sent into school everyday and taken home to be washed and refilled each evening.

Homework will include:

  • Spellings - spellings will be given every Friday, via Seesaw (paper copies can be requested), in preparation for a spelling check the following Friday

  • Reading - It is really important that your child reads regularly - they should try to read every day. It is crucial that they read frequently to develop their vocabulary and their understanding of stories, sentence structures and punctuation. Reading and discussing a book with your child will develop reading comprehension skills too. Pupils and adults should ensure they record their reading in the reading record at least three times each week. Pupils have a Reading Band book from their current banded level of reading. In addition they can choice any Class 5 library book from the shelves. Also, they can read from books the school has hired through the Education Library Service.
  • Multiplication Facts - pupils should be able to quickly recall multiplication facts up to 12 x 12 by the end of year 4; therefore it is crucial your child continues to practise those facts they are not yet secure with.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to see me at the end of the school day or contact me via Seesaw.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
