Year 3 - Spring Term 2

Welcome back! We hope you have all had a refreshing break.

This half term we wil be:

English - This half term we will start by looking at traditional poems, which will be followed by writing stories based in imaginary worlds, such as Fantastic Mr Fox.

Home Preparation - Find a range of traditional poems, choose your favourite and learn it off by heart. Read a range of stories based in imaginary worlds.

Mathematics - We will be returning to Multiplication and Division this half term as we start to extend our knowledge and understanding of them.  The children will learn to write and calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division using the multiplication tables they know, including for two-digit numbers times one-digit numbers, using mental methods and progressing to formal written methods. This will be followed by our Time topic where the children will learn to read time with increasing accuracy to the nearest minute as well as telling and writing the time from an analogue clock, including using Roman numerals, 12hour and 24-hour clocks.

Home Preparation - Continue to practise instant recall of 3, 4 and 8 times tables and discuss how to read the time.

The Way, The Truth and The Life - In our next topic will be learning about the importance of the Eucharist in the mass. This also links in with our preparation for the Sacrament of Holy Communion, which for some of our children will take place later in the year.

Home Preparation - Discuss the importance of the Last Super and how it is remembered during mass each Sunday.

History & Geography - We will be continuing with our history topic 'Romans' before moving on to our geography topic 'Maps' where children will learn a range of map skills.

Home Preparation - Use road maps to look at our local area. Where do you live? Where is our school? Can you find any other familar places on the map?

Take a look at what we've been up to this half term.

Year 3 have worked hard in Design and Technology over the past few weeks. Here they are making their sandwiches last week. Many thanks to our lovely parent helpers.
