Year 1 is an exciting year! We are developing our skills taught in EYFS and using them to secure skills taught in the National Curriculum.

Important things to remember:

  • PE is currently on a Tuesday and Friday - please ensure your child has a labelled PE kit in school every day. Thank you!
  • Homework is handed out on a Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. If your child is having any problems with their homework, please ask me for help as soon as possible. .
  • Children have a spelling book that should be in school every day but most importantly on a Friday so the children can complete the test in them.
  • Everyone has received and phonics key ring and high frequency words, when reading with your child please practise these.
  • It is really important that your child reads regularly - please could you listen to your child read for a few minutes each day as reading alone has a massive impact on your child’s academic progress in almost all subjects. In addition to this your child has a log in for Teach my monster to read and Purple Mash which can be found in their reading record book. Children are now able to change their own reading books and should do so as soon as they finish their books, please encourage children to do this.
  • As we are getting closer to the phonics screening it is even more important to read at home and practise phoincs with your child.

If you have any questions or concerns, please see me at the end of the school day.

Thanks for your ongoing support,

Miss J Maddox
