Year 1 Home Learning

Wednesday 1st April 2020

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY! Today when people are on a walk, they will be looking out for jokes in people’s windows. Can you make up a funny joke or write your favourite joke and put it in your window? What do you call a dinosaur that is sleeping? A dino-snore!

I have set us up a class login for Oxford Owl. This website will allow you to read as many books as you would like! Please try and read every day to an adult and remember to sound out words you're unsure of before blending the sounds together. Follow this link https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/ and click 'My Class Login' towards the top right. The login details are Username: MissRowland1 Password: yearone  I wonder which book you will choose first?

Parents - I know you're juggling a lot at home and you're doing an amazing job during this difficult time. Continuing to hear your child read is so important as we want them to be brilliant little readers and not lose it while they're off, even if you make 5-10 minutes spare before bed. I have attached a link which explains how to help your child at home with their reading for Year 1. https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/reading-age-5-6-year-1/

Here are your activities for today, please upload your work to Seesaw once completed.

Why don’t you begin your day with a free live 30-minute fun P.E session with The Body Coach at https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1 at 9am.

Sick sentences - Please see Seesaw for more instructions on this task.

Good morning year 1’s! I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend and are up and ready for another week of home learning. Thank you so much for all of your effort last week and I’m looking forward to hearing from you all today again 😊 Did you all watch the teacher toilet roll challenge? Maybe I should be a footballer not a teacher, I kicked mine straight into next-door's back garden! oops! cheeky

Maths

Find something in your house you could use to measure with. They all need to be the same size e.g. counters, lego bricks, paper clips, dry pasta tubes etc. Choose different objects, such as a pen or book. Estimate how many lego bricks (or whatever your unit of measure is) long it will be and then use them to measure what it actually is. Can you find different things round your house which are longer/shorter? Take pictures so Seesaw.

English

Timmy the tooth. – See your activity on Seesaw.

Phonics

Have a go of the tricky words game on Seesaw. See if you can beat Mum, Dad, sister or brother! If you don’t have a dice, you could write down the numbers 1-6 on scrap paper and fold them up for a lucky dip or google a number generator.

Get creative!

You’ve got something special inside of you! A unique talent that should be shared, it might be singing, dancing, doing magic, playing an instrument, drawing, doing impressions, painting, baking, juggling or something else. I would LOVE to see it. Take a picture or video and upload it to Seesaw.

Have a lovely day!

Welcome to Year 1

Our class teacher is Miss Rowland and we are so lucky to have Miss Williams and Mrs Leah too!  Miss Ward teaches us RE, PSHE and RSE on Monday.

Year 1 is a really exciting and busy year! We are developing our skills taught in Reception and becoming more independent in our learning and written work.

Important things to rememer:

  • PE is currently on a Friday - please ensure your child has a labelled PE kit in school every day.
  • Homework is handed out on a Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. If your child is having any problems with their homework, please ask me for help as soon as possible. They will receive spelling homework and either maths or english work that will consolidate our learning from in class.
  • It is really important that your child reads regularly - please could you listen to your child read for a few minutes each day as reading alone has a massive impact on your child’s academic progress in almost all subjects. Children are being taught to change their own reading books and should do so as soon as they finish their books, please encourage your child to do this.

If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to me at the end of the school day.
